It is hard to believe we are already at the end of August! And I have passed my "anniversary" of blogging here!
We have had a fun but busy summer. I will share some of the highlights here.
May
We went to two or three ladies' softball games at UF, with Grandpa. We even were treated to free donuts once, because the Gators pitched a no hitter!
Another event we participated in was the Presidential Physical Fitness challenge with a group of homeschoolers. The kids were divided into groups by gender and age. Steven was actually too young to particpate, but he sure had fun tagging along with Daniel and another six year old and his little brother! Steven and the other little boy were the funnest to watch, because they tried so hard and really thought they were participateing, too!!
I was so proud of Daniel! He actually earned a National Award!! Even Grandpa was impressed! Timothy and Jennifer did their best, and earned a Participant's certificate. Now we see what we have to work on this school year! Maybe that is one reason I signed Jennifer up for the Personal Fitness class through the Florida Virtual School!
One weekend there was a neat festival in town. There were hot air balloons (which we never got to see). There were some lumberjack-type games, which we also missed. There were some bagpipe players, which we did get to see!! And there were fireworks after dark. That was fun! The only problem, they were too loud for Steven!!
We also enjoyed a trip to the beach!
On Memorial Day, we took a field trip to St. Augustine. If you know your history, you will know that St. Augustine is the oldest city in the U.S. We planned to go to two or three of the forts in the area. As it turned out, we "stumbled" upon the lighthouse! Daniel has enjoyed lighthouses ever since we Rowed The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Grey Bridge.
We did end up at one of the forts, the Castillo de San Marcos. This is the oldest fort in the U.S. It was fascinating--at least for Mom!;-) We went on the guided tour to learn about the fort (and I threatened the kids with a quiz afterward! ), and we saw them demonstrate shooting off the cannons.
We really enjoyed the day! But then, on our way back home, all of a sudden there was a thump, thump, thump....The tires that were getting worn out, and I'd been praying over, one finally gave up!! So, Timothy had his first experience changing a tire!--A kind gentleman did stop to help, and he said Timothy was doing a good job. But it was nice to have the extra help, to make sure it was done correctly and that the lug nuts were tight enough!;-)
It's great having a teenage son around!
June
The month of June passed rather uneventfully. Timothy was focusing on getting his FLVS work finished up. I was busy taking Steven to therapy, and on my own classwork.
One day, though, Timothy and my husband washed the outside of the RV. Steven thought that looked like the greatest fun!! So, he got a bucket of water and a scrub brush, and was scrubbing a tree trunk!
We were so focused on getting Timothy finished up with his schoolwork, so he'd be ready to go to Laurelbrook the end of June/beginning of July--we almost overlooked Steven's birthday!!
He turned 4 on the 28th. We went as a family to Chuck E Cheese to celebrate.
For Timothy we had a special graduation celebration, too, before he headed to boarding school. We invited some people from church--with only one of the families being able to come. We also invited another homeschooling family to come. So it was just a small group. We had refreshments, and I presented Timothy with a diploma. Then we shot off some fireworks/firecrackers at nearly dark.
Maybe I better continue in another post!! To be continued.....;-)
