Random 5 on Friday, February 28

1. I'm amazed that it's the end of February...finally! ;-)

2. There are more signs of approaching Spring, which you may have noticed if you've seen some of my recent Beauty Captured submissions.

3. In order to help raise some money around here, Jen and I are considering selling some of our Build a Bear animals. Perhaps the funds raised will help get at least Jen moved to Florida.

4. One of my passions is photography (if you haven't noticed!). I enjoy taking photos, and sharing them on my blog and on Facebook. It makes me sad, hurt even, when they seem to go unnoticed, especially by a few certain people whose opinions I value.

5. One of my favorite Bible passages is: " Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord." Psalm 27:14. Do you have a favorite Bible text?

Beauty Captured--Day 210/Wordless Wednesday

I couldn't make up my mind which photo to use, so I asked Jen and the younger two boys which one they liked best...they each chose a different one!! So, tell me, which one do you like best?

Help Stop the Senseless Killing of Whooping Cranes!

You all may know by now how I feel about Whooping Cranes.

When I was in ninth grade, my science fair project was about wildlife conservation. I targeted three creatures: one that had nearly been wiped out, but was making a come back (the American Bison); one that was on the verge of extinction, because there were so few (the Whooping Crane), and one that is now extinct (the Passenger Pigeon).

This began my "love affair" with the Whooping Crane. It was rekindled when we moved to Florida, and I learned about Operation Migration, and the work they are doing to reintroduce the Whooping Crane in Florida. The children and I witnessed several fly overs, when OM team brought the birds to Florida, and now I follow along via web cam. (This cam, too)

The Whooping Crane population has grown from 15 birds in 1941, to nearly 600 now.

It is sad, even angering, to hear about the senseless killing of these beautiful birds. In November, 2013, someone shot 2 in Kentucky; and just recently, 2 more were shot in Louisiana.

Hence my reason for sharing the following article:
Letter: Louisiana failing as crane steward | Opinion | The Advocate — Baton Rouge, LA

Will You Let Him In?

The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee. Jeremiah 31:3.

The work dearest to the heart of Christ is that of drawing souls to Him.... Look at Jesus, the Majesty of heaven. What do you behold in His life history? His divinity clothed with humanity, a whole life of continual humility, the doing of one act of condescension after another, a line of continual descent from the heavenly courts to a world all seared and marred with the curse, and in a world unworthy of His presence, descending lower and still lower, taking the form of a servant, to be despised and rejected of men, obliged to flee from place to place to save His life, and at last betrayed, rejected, crucified. Then, as sinners for whom Jesus suffered more than the power of mortal can portray, shall we refuse to humble our proud will?

Study day and night the character of Christ. It was His tender compassion, His inexpressible, unparalleled love for your soul, that led Him to endure all the shame, the revilings, the abuse, the misapprehensions of earth. Approach nearer Him, behold His hands and His feet, bruised and wounded for our transgressions. “The chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”

Lose no time, let not another day pass into eternity, but just as you are, whatever your weakness, your unworthiness, your neglect, delay not to come now.... The call of Jesus to come to Him, the presentation of a crown of glory that fadeth not away, the life, the eternal life that measures with the life of God, has not been of sufficient inducement to lead you to serve Him with your undivided affections....

Be no longer on Satan’s side of the question. Make decided, radical changes through the grace given you of God. No longer insult His grace. He is saying with tears, “Ye will not come to me, that ye might have life” (John 5:40). Now Jesus is inviting you, knocking at the door of your heart for entrance. Will you let Him come in? ~That I May Know Him,
by E.G. White.

1. Last Saturday hubby and Botanist Boy worked at repairing the plumbing. First they had to find where the clog was. In order to do that, they had to find where the pipe was! Eventually it became a "family affair," with all hands on deck.

When they found the clog, which ended up being at an intersection, they found the water line right next to the sewer line. While hubby was trying to loosen a root, he accidentally broke the water line. So, we spent half the day without running water, in addition to no flushing toilets.

By the time the sun went down, though, we had both flushing toilets, and running water...although hubby thought it best not to drink the water for several days, till we could be sure the waterline was completely flushed of any possible contaminants.

What a beautiful sight it was, to see the toilet flush! ;) And oh, how good a shower felt, after a few days since the last one! It was pretty exciting having clean dishes again, too!
2. Right now, it's looking like the child support amount has suddenly been cut in half, with no warning. It will be even more challenging now, trying to keep these hungry, growing boys fed and clothed!

3. Tuesday was a pretty sad day at Rossmont. We had to take the goats back to the lady from whom we got them. They are due to kid next month; we were looking forward to seeing the babies.
4. Tomorrow is my younger brother's birthday. There are only about 13 1/2 months between us. In many ways, we were like twins...except Mom had to experience two pregnancies and deliveries. We've always been fairly close, except when we fought like crazy as kids.

5. Spring is coming!! Here's proof!!

Saying Good-bye is Hard

Today we had to say good-bye to our beautiful goats. Perhaps it will be only temporary, but I rather doubt that.

It seems the child support has suddenly been cut in half, with no warning whatsoever, which really cuts big time in to the total household income. So now there just is no money to pay for goat feed. The donkey needs to go, as well. The rabbits, and at least some of the chickens, too.

We tearfully said our good-byes to our sweet goats.
