Time4Learning is a web based learning program for grades PreK-8th grade. This program combines learning with fun educational teaching games, covering the core subjects of language arts and math, as well as science and social studies for most grades.
One thing that is really nice is, if your child's skill level is different in math than it is in language arts, for example, the program will be adjusted to meet those differences. So, say his skill level for math is at the third grade level, but his language arts level is first grade level, Time4Learning makes those adjustments. Your child can also move as slowly or as quickly as he or she is able.
You can find a scope and sequence here, as well as lesson demos here. You'll also find a lesson planning worksheet, to help you determine how many lessons your child should do each day in each subject. A couple other cool features are a parent community and forum, and progress reports, which can be accessed online.
You are even given the option of printing off these reports. A great option, if you need to include such things in your child's portfolio when it comes to evaluation time at the end of the year.
Here are a few screenshots, to show you a little of what the program looks like:
Little Bit is, technically, in second grade this year. Due to his developmental delays, though, he is not really on grade level in all his subjects. He loves math, so he tends to excel there. Phonics and reading are a bit of a struggle for him. So, you can see, he was using different levels in the various subjects.
Because he does struggle with reading, that meant someone had to sit with him to read the directions, the problems, etc., for him as he worked on the various lessons. I wish the program did more automative reading, so he could have worked more independently.
Botanist Boy had a blast with this program! I think his favorite subject was the science. He enjoyed the video tutorials especially.
This would be a wonderful supplemental program for us, for Botanist Boy to work on independently on those days I have to take Little Bit to therapy. Or he could work on it while I am doing other subjects with his brother, or with his sister on some of her difficult high school classes. But I just don't think it could fit into our budget.
Subscriptions are $19.95 per month for the first child, $14.95 per month for each additional child. For someone who wanted to use this for your core homeschool curriculum, the price could be considered very reasonable, for one child anyway, at about $180.00-$240.00 for the school year (depending on how many months you consider schooling each year). Time4Learning offers a low monthly price, and provides a 14 day money-back guarantee so you can be sure that it works for your family!

Good review. I too thought the price was reasonable if used as a core program, but a bit high for us as a supplement.
ReplyDeleteI love that you can now choose totally different grade levels in the different subjects! I tend to need to do that as well. And that is something I totally forgot to bring up in my review.
ReplyDeleteI also love the ability to change grade levels as needed based on skill level! Science is definitely a favorite among my kiddos using Time4Learning. Glad to hear your son enjoyed his experience with Time4Learning!
