Random 5 on Friday, January 31

The last day of January. Finally! ;) It has seemed to have been a very long month here this year.

1. We had an ice/sleet storm this week, on Tuesday. Hubby barely made it home that night. When we awoke on Wednesday, everything was too icy for him to make the trip, though he did attempt. When his car started sliding on the road (maybe a couple miles or so from the house) he thought better of going, and came back home. Even Tim was off work on Wednesday, due to the ice, and he works right here in town.

2. I've spent the week in excruciating pain. My left hip has been hurting so badly, I can barely walk. It hurts to sit down. It even hurts to lie down. I keep praying for it to stop hurting. Imagine the challenge of putting on my socks! I can't even reach my left foot! LOL

3. Plans were to begin a unit study on the Olympics this week using Amanda Bennett's Winter Olympics 2014 study, but due to the two above interruptions, it hasn't happened yet.

4. Jen, the younger boys, and I have been watching The Waltons a lot this week. We have the whole series on DVD. We learn some about The Great Depression, as well as World War II.

5. The weather has certainly brought "swarms" of birds to our yard and feeders! Cardinals, Goldfinches, titmice, chickadees, even robins. They go through a lot of sunflower seeds! (In fact, we are out of seeds again, needing to buy more).

  1. We love the Waltons! I never thought about the time era and using it with homeschooling. Thanks!

  2. I grew up watching the Waltons with my mom. She still watches it all the time.

  3. I get pain in my hip on a regular basis too. Mine ends up going toward my lower back on the left side. I hope you feel better soon. :)

  4. I haven't even thought about the olympics. Does that make me a bad home school mom?

I love hearing from you! Please leave a comment. Thanks!
