P is for Pansy

P is for Pansy

Pansies look like they have little faces, don't they? I think the pansy is a favorite of many people. Pansies just look so happy and cheerful!

The pansy is a group of large-flowered hybrid plants cultivated as garden flowers. Pansies are in the Viola genus. I was reading that Lady Mary Elizabeth Bennet, daughter of the Lord of Tankerville, along with her gardener, William Richardson, produced a large variety of plants, via cross-breeding. She introduced her pansies to the horticultural world in 1812. (I think I will need to have my Botanist Boy study about her, soon.)

I like the fact that around here, pansies seem able to grow through the winter even.

What other flowers or plants can you think of which begin with the letter "P"?
