What the Boys at Rossmont are Reading This Summer

I don't participate in the Blog Cruise nearly as often as I wish to (that deadline sneaks up on me!), but this week's topic, "Summer Reading for Boys," couldn't be passed up!

Summer is a great time to do some extra reading, whether you're curled up in the porch swing, or lounging on the couch, or reclining on a towel at the beach.

Here's a line up of some of the choices my boys will have this summer. We might even participate in some of the summer reading programs!

Little Bit has been reading Tornado. It has long been on his wish list to read, and finally we have gotten around to reading it. (A review is coming, within a week or so!)

We just discovered a new series of books, Goldtown Adventures. Botanist Boy devoured the first book, and is begging for the next one. (Watch for a review on this one, as well, coming in July).

We are reading our way through Laura Ingalls Wilder's books.

We are also reading our way through the Living Forest series, by Sam Campbell.

My mother read these to us when we were kids, in the car on the way to school. You see, my parents are retired church school teachers. So, we went to school together. We came home together. The years we were in North Carolina, we also picked up several other school children on our way to school, and dropped them off on the way home. So Mom would read aloud to us while we traveled.

We have many of G.A. Henty's books on our Kindles/Kindle Reader apps. We can also get them as audio books on LibriVox. We had one of the books on cassette when Tim was younger, which got pretty worn out! Now I can load them on to the boys' mp3 players. We'll read/listen to The Cat of Bubastes first, since we are studying Ancient Egypt.

Another set of books they could read are Thornton Burgess' books, either on Kindle, or audio.

Botanist Boy may also be reading several Kindle books about gardening, and landscaping. He loves plants: houseplants, ornamental plants, etc. He'd like to be a landscape architect some day.

Be sure to see other Crew members' suggestions for summer reading for boys. (Link goes live Tuesday, June 18, 2013)
