This Week at Rossmont--April 21-27, 2013

In my life this week…I've been battling bouts of insomnia. Perhaps it's partly because the full moon shines so brightly in to the bedroom, which wakes me, and makes it hard to get back to sleep!

In our homeschool this week…This week Little Bit has been "Rowing" the book, Angelo.
Angelo restores centuries-old buildings and sculptures in Rome. While he is working one day, he finds an injured pigeon, and nurses her back to health.
Little Bit was delighted with the illustrations, especially of the pigeon in traction, etc.!
We studied a bit about Italy, and Rome; pigeons, of course; Roman Numerals. I was excited to see the lessons on the different periods of music, and some of the musical terms which originate from Italy.

These lessons mesh well with the Home School in the Woods Composers and Orchestra study we've been working on (watch for a review next week). I love how the Lord works out the little details like that.

So, today we had our Five in a Row meal: linguine, Rosemary Focacci, and Spumoni.

As part of science, I have been reading aloud to Little Bit a book called, Mask the Door County Coon. It is about a raccoon in Door County, Wisconsin, and does well in describing the life of a raccoon. What I don't like is the fact this poor coon is hunted. I'm not fond of hunting or killing animals. Little Bit seems to find the story fascinating, though.

We've also been reading a book about Bach, with Botanist Boy. After this, we'll probably read one about Beethoven. And Botanist Boy has begun reading a biography about Johannes Keppler.

We received two new items to review, as well. From Math Mammoth, two MIRL workbooks about fractions, decimals and percents, and MIRL States book for Mississippi. The other product a set of workbooks, Budding Authors, from Joyce Herzog. Watch for reviews on these next month.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…Tuesday Little Bit had his six month dental check up, and Botanist Boy had an orthodontist appointment (to determine whether or not his over bite is finally bad enough for braces to be covered by Medicaid).

I’m praying for…Our friends, who lost their loved one last week.

A photo, video, link, or quote to share (silly, serious or both!)…And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates. ~Deuteronomy 6:5-9.
