This Week at Rossmont--February 10-16, 2013

In our homeschool this week…In our Bible class and study about Ancient Egypt, we added a couple more books we are reading: Ancient Egypt and Her Neighbors, and The Cat of Bubastes. We are listening to The Cat of Bubastes as an audio book, via Books Should Be Free.

One suggested activity was to make salt dough maps of Egypt. We decided to try sugar cookie dough instead.

Yeah, that didn't work too well! LOL But at least it tasted yummy!

Little Bit had fun with an experiment in his science this week. We made a batch of lemon flavored jello, divided it in two, then added some red food coloring to one portion. Then he had his siblings smell and taste each portion. We had them try the red colored first, then the uncolored. You should try it!

Strawberry, I think

Yeah, Strawberry

Strawberry?

Strawberry, sort of...
We learned that, yes, humans seem to use their sight more when determining smells or flavors than do our canine friends.

We've also watched a couple Lassie movies: Lassie, Come Home, and The Hills of Home. The boys are also enjoying MythBusters, How It's Made, and Drive Through History, via Netflix streaming.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…Hubby and I both had Jury Summons; Monday we went in for the jury selection process. The was my first time ever (last time I was summoned, the elevator wasn't operating, and I cannot maneuver the stairs). Hubby was selected; I was excused. So when I got home, I briefly explained the process to the boys.

Tuesday, Jen and Little Bit had orthodontist appointments. I wasn't feeling well at all, so I asked Tim to take them, since he had the day off. It was a little nerve-wracking for me, since this was the first time I'd sent Little Bit with them to town. They came back in one piece, though!!

My favorite thing this week was
Valentine roses from my hubby

Questions/thoughts I have…This week, my dear daughter was devastated. Sunday evening, her boss texted her not to come to work Monday. Monday evening, she texted again, telling her not to come Tuesday. We thought maybe the restaurant was closed, because it's Mardi Gras season. And Jen was thankful to have Tuesday off, because of her orthodontist appointment.

Then Tuesday evening, her boss texted her again, to tell her she'd found someone else, (who has a driver's license and car, and will work on Saturday) and she no longer needed Jen!! This has totally devastated Jen! And the mama bear in me isn't too happy, either!

We have a hard time comprehending how the boss could be so rude and cowardly, for one. Apparently she knew on Sunday she had someone else lined up; she could have had Jen come to work on Monday, and told her in person! Instead, she does it via text message!

Jen was planning to get her license on Thursday, and her boss knew that! As it turned out, we couldn't have Jen get her license this week after all, because now she has no income with which to pay her portion of the auto insurance.

And not long ago, her boss had told Jen she wanted her to work until the end of the school year, so she wouldn't have to try finding someone else at this time. Well, perhaps God will work it out for Jen to move to Florida (like she wants) sooner than she thought she'd be able to. (Still not sure my mama heart is ready for that!!)

Things I’m working on…I'm trying to just leave this all in God's hands! Trying to set an example for my kids in this respect, too.

I’m grateful for…the fact that Tim does have his license! And his own car, too!

I’m praying for…Jen, that God will bring her another job, quickly.

  1. Sounds like a good, but bittersweet week. I know it is hard for me to be patient and wait for God when it comes to one of my children.
