Time4Writing {Schoolhouse Review Crew}

Not long ago, I mentioned that, while Botanist Boy may enjoy writing, writing well doesn't come naturally for him. This school year, I plan for us to do some major emphasizing on learning this skill.

We've been blessed with the opportunity to use and review an 8-week course from Time4Writing this summer. He is working his way through the Middle School Writing Enhancement course.

Middle School Writing Enhancement,  the second of two courses focusing on “boosting the basics” at the middle school level, emphasizes the technical parts of writing such as comma and semi-colon placement, compound sentences, words often confused, and capitalization. These are the areas where many young writers with creative talent often need reinforcement.

Course Objectives:
  1. Sensible Sentences
  2. Commands and Exclamations – Two more kinds of sentences
  3. Verbs – Past, Present, and Future
  4. More Verb Forms!
  5. Describing Words
  6. Putting Sentences Together
  7. Comma Sense
  8. The Proof is in the Writing
There are more courses from which to choose as well.

After you sign up your child for which ever course you choose, your child then logs in to complete his/her assignments online. Then the teacher assigned to your child will check your child's assignments, provide feedback, and grade the lessons.

A couple years ago, Jen went through one of the high school courses, so when this opportunity came up, she really encouraged Botanist Boy to take advantage of it. He was a bit reluctant, at first.

For one: it's been summer break. For two: we were actually out of town for family vacation for ten days during the review period. But once we got back on track, he is doing well, and working hard to get caught up to where he should be on the schedule. His teacher has been helpful with this as well.

I like the fact that Botanist Boy is being held accountable to a teacher other than mom for awhile. I think we find it rather...challenging...to have that somewhat tight time frame, though. Perhaps it's because I am too lenient in sticking to a schedule in general! :p

Take a brief "tour" or check out the free resources.

Cost: Each 8-week course is $99.00.
