Create Better Writers {Schoolhouse Review Crew}

Writing has always come easy for me, and is something I've always enjoyed doing. A couple of my children enjoy writing as well, but you know what I discovered? Writing well hasn't come naturally for them.

I was excited to learn that we'd have the opportunity to receive products from Create Better to use and review! I am thankful for some assistance in teaching my kidlets the writing skills they so vitally need.

Do you want a writing program that is easy to teach? Since writing can be a complicated subject to teach, many home school teachers simply want a curriculum that presents writing in a clear, straightfoward manner.

The Home School Writing Action Plan is broken in to three parts:

Part I – Summary of the Steps: The summaries of the steps are listed on a few pages.  This will help you know, at all times, where you should be, where you are headed, and where each step fits into the big picture of your child’s writing.
Part II – Pacing Charts:  Part 2 gives you sample pacing charts that will help you decide where and when to begin and how much time to spend on each activity.
Part III – The Road Map: Part 3 will show you how to implement each step and give you strategies to help reinforce the writing concepts.  However, this section will not give you specific lesson plans.

What your students will know when they finish this program:

  • How To Write Strong Essays
  • How To Write Research Reports
  • How To Write Great Stories
  • Well Developed Vocabulary
  • How To Write Intelligent, Descriptive Sentences
  • Completely Prepared for the SAT/ACT College Writing Exam

If your student knows How to Write a Paragraph, he can write anything from an essay, to a research report, to an in-depth story.

It all starts with one simple trick. Teach this trick in minutes, have your student practice it several times, and he will have a solid grasp for writing paragraphs. Use this trick to write stories, summarize stories, write reports, and more.  No assignment is too difficult. (Recommended from grade 3 and up)

How To Teach The Five-Paragraph Essay contains a step-by-step plan for teaching the five-paragraph essay. Teachers will be able to show their students how a simple outline will help students master one of the most important skills a student can acquire.

One thing I like is the fact that I can use these methods with both boys together. I'm even having Jen go through these lessons with us.

I wish I'd had these books several years ago, to assist both Jen and Tim. It will prove very helpful for Jen, when she needs to write essays or research papers for college, etc.!

And the Botanist Boy is benefiting in improved letter-writing skills, and in his story writing. Grandma will be so proud to see the improvements, too! (She's a retired English teacher!!)
