IXL.com {Schoolhouse Review Crew}

Math....Yes, again! ;-) Math makes my youngest very happy! Doing math with IXL makes him even happier!

IXL.com is an interactive web-based math practice site, for students Pre-K through Algebra, with plans for higher levels of math coming soon.

IXL Learning was founded in 1998 to advance education through Web-based technologies. They’ve created transformative products with an impact that makes them instant classroom essentials.

Math is about so much more than just numbers. Each math concept is approached from all angles, offering visual representations, word problems, interactive activities, and more. With an abundance of math problems for every learning style, students can't help but build lasting skills and confidence.

IXL is a practice environment that rewards hard work—after all, with dynamic, unlimited questions, guessing your way to success isn't exactly an option. Instead, students are encouraged to learn from their mistakes, and move through new challenges at their own pace. There's no feeling that can match mastering a skill on IXL, since it comes with the satisfaction of knowing your student really does “get it.”

IXL was designed as the ultimate focused learning environment. Free from any gimmicks or distractions, IXL is a place where every minute is spent truly learning math.

Not only do students gain new skills on IXL—they gain a whole new appreciation for how fun math can be! From the vibrant images that permeate IXL's skills, to the enticing awards and certificates that are hidden throughout the site, students cannot wait to hop on IXL—and you'll have trouble tearing them away.

Thanks to IXL's easy-to-read reports and e-mail updates, you will never miss a second of your student’s exciting learning journey. These reports give you information that matters: exactly which problems your student missed; where your student’s trouble spots lie; how he/she has progressed over time; how much knowledge he/she truly understood and retained.

Little Bit has been enjoying using IXL; the Botanist Boy, not so much...because he doesn't like math, anyway, poor boy! Little Bit started out using the first grade level, which he liked, because he could have the computer read the problems for him. But quickly he moved on to the second grade level (since first grade was too easy for him). I think he was quite delighted to find he could read the problems for himself, after all, and didn't need Mom or an older sibling to read for him! ;-)

Both boys like the awards, and are especially pleased when I print off their Certificates of Achievement. I think this is something I might seriously consider continuing for at least Little Bit, although I think it would greatly benefit the Botanist Boy, as well!
