Homeschool Mother's Journal~Recap of Summer

The Homeschool Mother's Journal

In my life the past few months

Obviously, I took a bit of a break from blogging through the summer. But now that we are back in to school, and back in to the TOS Crew review year...Well, I guess I will get back in to blogging regularly! :-)

I guess the summer months were spent, just maintaining the household; treading water, so to speak.

  • We had a small harvest, from our small garden.

  • We cared for our rabbits, chickens, goats.

  • We watched our dog grow from puppy, to "teenager."

  • We celebrated three birthdays!

  • I've done some lesson planning, and preparations for our new school year.

  • We skipped family vacation this year. Poor hubby never even took a "stay-cation."

I was inspired by

Along the way, I received some CDs of past FPEA homeschool conventions, to borrow and to which I could listen. I've listened to a few, and enjoyed them!

I received an audiobook: How to Raise Real Men, by Hal and Melanie Young, and have begun listening to it. I hope hubby will listen to it after I'm finished (since he has a lengthy commute).

I read How to Have a H.E.A.R.T. for Your Kids, by Rachael Carmen, for which I will be writing a review, soon.

Places we went and people we saw

Like I said, we didn't have family vacation this summer. Poor hubby has been working non-stop...even on the weekends...for months now.

But Botanist Boy and I made a trip to Florida, to spend a few days with my mom while my dad was out of town. Botanist Boy watered the little fruit trees for Grandma, so she wouldn't have to while Grandpa was gone. We visited a couple homeschooling friends of ours while their. When we came home, we brought with us an old dresser, and a barrister's bookcase....to use for more storage space in our "classroom."

While driving home, we took the scenic route, traveling along the Gulfcoast line. It was a lovely drive!

Teenager (Wait! he is no longer a teenager!! He's 20 now!!) had a week off work in mid-July. Again, we went no where! It's too bad we couldn't have gone to Florida that week....

Teen Girl had the opportunity, joy, pleasure of making a trip to Florida, with my brother and his family! She was happy to have some time with her cousin...and visiting Disney for the first time! My folks were with them, as well. What a great way for her to celebrate turning 18! :-) She also spent a day with her best friend.

Of course, Little Bit continued his trips to therapy throughout the summer...

My favorite thing this summer was

I'll admit, it was the trip Botanist Boy and I took to Florida. It was rather peaceful, and enjoyable traveling with just the boy. I enjoyed seeing the new sights on the way back home, too, even if it took longer to make the trip.

Things I worked on

My big project for the summer was organizing the classroom, after we got home from Florida. It's nice to have the school stuff, and books, at least somewhat organized now. Not sure how long the room will actually be somewhat neat and clutter-free, though! LOL

I read

  • When Calls the Heart

  • When Comes the Spring

  • How to Have a H.E.A.R.T. For Your Kids

I cooked

Birthday cakes!

I was grateful for

  • Little Bit turning 9.

  • Teen Girl turning 18.

  • Teenager turning 20. Now that he is no longer a teenager, I guess I need to come up with a new "screen name" for him! ;-)

  • Oh, and my parents celebrated 55 years of marriage this summer (yesterday, as a matter of fact!)

I prayed for

My mother-in-law. She has spent several weeks in the hospital; two different times, as a matter of fact. Once at the beginning of the summer, and again currently.

  1. What great photos you've included.

Happy anniversary to your parents! Isn' that wonderful? I cannot wait until I have been married that long :) (just 40 more years lol)

Sorry to hear about your hubby working so much! That has got to be tough. Will pray for that and also for you mother-in-law's health.

Here's hoping/praying that your next week is great and so is the rest of the year :) Take care
