Homeschool Mother's Journal~7

In my life this week...

Let the house-hunting begin! :p The thought of moving makes me ill! I like my house! I like the land we have with it! But let's face it! Hubby has an hour (one-way) commute to work each day! And even though he has a small car, the price of gas is rising ridiculously! Not to mention two hours-plus of drive time each day, is wearing him out, poor guy!

Add to that the problems with vandalism we've had, and the trespassers, and the fact that the police in this town really don't do anything! And our sky-high property taxes and the fact we pretty much get nothing in return! ;-)

Well, we now have that sign out in front of our house. The kids are all feeling kind of bummed about it, especially Botanist Boy....And I am starting to feel stressed (even more than I already was!!!) over the fact of having to keep the house in "showable" state! And the thought of having to pack literally turns my stomach!

So, I covet your prayers: that the Lord will guide us; that if this is His will, He will send the right buyer; and that we will be able to find a house suitable for us, in a safe location. I know if we end up moving closer to hubby's work, it may very well mean Teenager will be moving out on his own, so he can stay here where he already has a job...And my heart is just not ready for that yet!

In our homeschool this week...

Little Bit and I enjoyed learning about popcorn this week! You can read about it here.

The boys are getting more and more into their computer schooling, too, and making good progress. I'm also thrilled to see Botanist Boy enjoying reading more with each passing day. He is currently "devouring" Magic Treehouse books. (Would they be considered "twaddle" or not?)

Places we're going and people we're seeing...

Okay, broken record: Tuesday, therapy day. End of story. We also visited the library (actually, both the one in town where he has therapy, and the one here in our little town). Did a minimal amount of shopping, since it was that "in between" week, end of one month, beginning of next, when the checking account is nearly depleted....

Friday Teen Girl and Botanist Boy had dental appointments. Now he should be set for 6 months! She has to go back in a few weeks, to have sealer put on some teeth.

My favorite thing this week was...

Observing the excitement and passion my boys exhibit with their computer schooling; the passion that has been sparked in Botanist Boy for reading; the initiative Teen Girl is taking in getting her schoolwork completed.

Oh, yeah, and the new paint job on my garden swing! Thanks, hubby and boys!!

What's working/not working for us...

The rising gasoline prices are not working for us!

Oh, wait, this is supposed to be homeschool related?....Hmmmm, well, things seem to be moving along fairly well at the moment in that respect.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have...

Botanist Boy has gotten so involved with reading Magic Treehouse books. I am thrilled to see his love for reading has been sparked, and would like to fan the flame! It has me wondering, would these books be considered "twaddle"? Are there other books, full of such adventure, and interest to boys, that you could recommend? I'm not even sure at what reading level they are written.

A photo, video, link, or quote to share...

I just thought this was such a sweet site, I couldn't resist shooting the photo. Just warms me from my heart to my toes! ;-)
