It's hard to say good bye.....

My heart is aching tonight. My beloved cousin, Pete, lost his battle against Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease today. He is sleeping safely in the arms of Jesus now, and is no longer suffering pain.

One of the last times I was able to see Pete was about 5 years ago, right about now, when the children and I were on our way from Montana to Florida via AmTrak. We took a 24 hour layover there, to visit my aunt and Pete.

I also have a sweet memory of trips he and my dad took to Montana, for Pete to hunt for rocks. They visited us in Montana a couple times, coming by train. One of those times was when my youngest was just two years old. Pete seemed to develop an instant bond with my little guy.

Other memories include spending Christmas in Wisconsin, at my aunt’s and Pete’s, my junior year of high school. And a very fuzzy, dim memory from when I was very young, and watching Pete feed the cattle.

He just has always been very dear to my heart. I’ve always looked up to him, and admired his photography and his knowledge about so many things, especially rocks. I will miss him very much….but at least it will be for only a little while. Jesus is coming soon; then I will be able to see him, and many other loved ones who are currently sleeping in Jesus.
