The Write Foundation is a writing curriculum designed to be a "grab-it-and-go" curriculum, which teaches a system, beginning with the writing process: formulating a topic, then a thesis, then supporting points.
There are three levels to choose from: sentence writing (recommended age, 11-13); paragraph writing (recommended age, 12-15) ; and essay writing (recommended age, 14-17). You will find sample lesson plans and workbook pages on the site.
Each complete curriculum package contains: instruction manual for lessons 1-30, student worksheets for lessons 1-30, and a CD of additional resources for $100.00 plus tax & shipping. It is also possible to purchase a package, for either lessons 1-15, or lessons 16-30, each of which would contain: the instructor's manual and student worksheets for the appropriate lessons, and the CD of additional resources, for $65.00 plus tax/shipping, for each package. It is possible to purchase extra student worksheets as well, for $25.00 for the complete package of 30 lessons, or $15.00 for lessons 1-15 or lessons 16-30, plus tax and shipping.
Another recommendation is the use of Mind Benders, from Critical Thinking Company. "Mind Benders are optional, but work quite effectively to develop organizational skills in a challenging way."
We received the Essay Writing, lessons 1-15, package for our review purposes, since my daughter falls in that age range. The additional resources did not come on CD for us; the vendor sent them to us via email, though.
The students are required to type their assignments, so I plan to have my daughter to post some of her assignments on her new blog, eventually...Since we received only the first half of the course, I may plan to purchase the rest later. I know it will be beneficial for her.
By the way, I was informed that The Write Foundation recently started a yahoo group, for those using or having questions about this curriculum; you might want to check that out!
