Anyway, for our first review, I get to share some more with you about SchoolhouseTeachers.com! We've been blessed with a yearly membership once again. (Frankly, it was one of the things I missed while on break from the Crew!) I'm excited to see some of the new things that have been added since the last time I had membership.
What exactly is SchoolhouseTeachers.com? It is the curriculum site of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, containing over 100 courses by various outstanding teachers. Course lengths vary from a few weeks to whole semesters or even entire school year.
This year my students are Botanist Boy, who is in 9th grade (wow! high school already!), and Little Bit, who, for state record-keeping purposes, is considered 5th grade.
One thing that is so great about SchoolhouseTeachers.com is that there is such a wide variety of subjects and grade levels from which to choose, there is something for everyone in the family...including parents! It can seem overwhelming even, at first glance.
The Schoolhouse Dailies definitely have something for everyone. For example, there are spelling lists for every level, PreK through high school. When you click on which level you wish to use, then you can choose which year you would like to work on, either an archived year, or the current active year (which is currently posting each week). From there, you are able to click on which day from which week you wish to have your student work on, which will open a pdf for you to print off.
Or maybe you'd like to visit an Everyday Explorer, either for Canada, the USA, or Australia & New Zealand. Even though we are in the US, I'd like my boys to learn more about Canada, and Australia/New Zealand, so I think I'll be having them touch on those throughout 2015.
I like how they have the page laid out, dividing it by subjects that could be for a full school year, or a full semester, or even just a few weeks. With Little Bit, we are exploring some of the elementary level subjects, like Spanish.
Each lesson is delivered in a two-week cycle, with the first week containing an instructional video, and the second week being hands-on review, containing printable worksheets. I like that Little Bit can use his iPad to watch the videos, and then I can print off the pdfs from my computer.
For further exploration, I hope to cover the Reading Lessons for Young Readers and Struggling Readers; Music Theory; and Nature/Outdoors, to name a few.
For Botanist Boy, I have him using Beginning Violin to supplement the violin lessons he recently began. He is able to watch the videos on his Kindle Fire, which makes it so convenient.
The way the landing page for each subject is laid out is so convenient when planning high school transcripts. At the bottom of the landing page, it will tell you how many high school credits will be earned upon completion of the course.
I also want us to explore, all three of us together, ASL Adventure (we've worked on learning bits and pieces of sign language in the past), music theory, and utilizing at least parts of the monthly reading list.
One of the most utilized resources from SchoolhouseTeachers.com are the Schoolhouse Planners, so I would be remiss in not at least mentioning them. I like that I am able to print off just the pages that I need, and that you can type in the information you need on those forms before printing them off. Excellent resources!
So, just how much does a yearly membership cost? Monthly membership can be purchased for $12.95, or you can save 10% by purchasing an entire yearly membership for $139.00. But wait! Right now, through Christmas Day at 11:59 p.m., you can save even more! Save 40% off the monthly membership ($7.77/month) or 50% off the Yearly Membership ($64.26/year). Homeschool families who join at this rate will keep it forever as long as they maintain a continuous membership. Just click the graphic below.
