M is for Magnolia

I have long enjoyed magnolias. They are so large, and lovely, and have a delicious fragrance. (Just don't ask my husband, though. Pollen and many fragrances make him sneeze. ;-) )

Magnolia is a large genus of about 210 flowering plant species in the subfamily Magnolioideae of the family Magnoliaceae. It is named after French botanist Pierre Magnol. Magnolia is an ancient genus. (wikipedia)

There is another type of magnolia that I think is also absolutely beautiful. That is the Chinese magnolia, which is also sometimes referred to as the Japanese magnolia.

I hope someday I will be able to have each kind growing in my yard.
