DNG Review: Sunny Seashells

Summer is coming. One of our favorite places to go in summer is the beach...preferably a Florida beach! ;) Our favorite thing to do at the beach is collecting shells!

The perfect way to whet your appetite is via the Sunny Seashells Download N Go! Like all Download N Go units, Sunny Seashells is full of information, weblinks and videos, notebooking pages and lapbook elements. It is designed especially for grades K-4, but can be adapted for older students.

Each Download N Go is a five-day unit study, which can be purchased for $7.95 each.

The Daily Objectives for Sunny Seashells are:

Day 1: Seashells--What Are They?
Day 2: Seashells and History
Day 3: Types of Seashells
Day 4: The Science of Seashells
Day 5: Seashell Party!

We had fun looking through our shells that we have picked up at various times when we've been to the beach, either along the Alabama or Florida Gulf Coast, or Florida Atlantic Coast. We also attempted to identify them, to the best of our ability.

We had fun printing off coloring pages of shells to color, as well as learning where some of the best beaches in the world are for shell collecting. We learned about various countries, what shells can be found on their beaches, and viewed, online, shells stamps from those countries.

We have been working our way through Sunny Seashells the past few days, with Teen Girl joining us. It fits in well with the main science curriculum we have been using all year, learning about marine biology, etc. One thing I will admit: it makes us long for a trip to the beach!!
Here is one of our favorite video clips from this unit:
