TOS Review: See the Light Art Class

Art has always been one of our favorites subjects on which to work. We tend to devote at least one day a week to the subject of art, art appreciation, art history. When I learned I'd have the opportunity to review See The Light Art Class, I was very pleased, and the children were excited!

See The Light Art Class consists of a series of 9 DVDs, with 4 lessons on each, and a bonus lesson on the first three DVDs of the series. Master artist, Pat Knepley, instructs in an engaging, captivating way. Each lesson is approximately 15 minutes.

This series of art lessons is most appropriate for elementary age, but middle school and high school students who haven't had much art instruction will find it helpful as well.

The topics, by volume:
  1. The Basics
  2. Shape & Space
  3. Value & Color
  4. Color Blending Techniques
  5. Proportions for Composition
  6. Texture & Form
  7. Perspective for the Landscape
  8. Balance and Foreshortening
  9. The Portrait

We really liked the bonus episode on Volume 1: Chalk-It-Easy Chalk Art Lesson! The children had fun drawing their own "cross hills." They used crayons or pastels rather than chalk, though.

There are different pricing options available.

The set of 9 DVDs is $99.99. This is a nice option, because then you are able to go through the series as fast or as slow as you wish, or repeat as often as you choose.

There is also an online subscription for the Art Class, for $10.00 a month. "With your initial subscription you'll receive access to the first four lessons. Each month thereafter your subscription unlocks the following four lessons while still giving you access to all the lessons you've already worked through!"

We enjoyed our brief overview so much, I think I am going to put this on our wishlist, request-for-help list to the grandparents! Maybe aunts and uncles, too.....I think it is a worthwhile item to fit into the homeschool budget.

Oh, for more information, there was a recent webinar sponsored by HomeschoolBlogger. You can go here to view/listen to it. You can also view the first three lessons online, as well as some bonus lessons, on the See The Light website.
